Family Tree – Royal House of Georgia

Why Georgia?

Aha! This family is something of a missing link in the unfolding of the events of 12th century Constantinople.

David IV (the Builder,) his son and his grand-daughter all presided over what is called the Georgian Golden Age.

In The Georgian Chronicles of Kartlis Tskhovreba (A History of Georgia) – these rulers are called “The King of Kings” and “The Queen of Queens,”

Right at the bottom, where you see Alexios and David…in 1185, their mother fled Constantinople with them and sought refuge with her sister, Tamar of Georgia. With the help of their aunt, these two grandsons of Andronicus I Comnenus founded the Empire of Trebizond.

Put this tree beside those of Comnenus and Angelos and all the connections become very clear.
