What happened to mankind after the arrival of the printing press?

The pen is mightier than the sword (?) Who do we value (and pay) today? The writers of words on paper?

Before the Printed Word -as in there for all to see on a piece of paper so it must be true – we only had vocal words. Thoughts, opinions etc that could be proved or disproved by actions.

Languages, accents, regions, tribes, runes, indigenous alphabets.

But once it was there ON PAPER and distributed to the Masses as Reality.
