Have you ever heard of Chopines?
I have. They were all over my 17th century research. One of those bizarre things that I love to look into :o)
This is a pair of Chopines.

They were The Fashion from about 1400-1700, apparently. Not exclusively female but much associated with courtesans and prostitutes. Why? Dunno!

Apparently – with practice – one could walk gracefully, fluidly and even dance the Galliard.

Mon Dieu. Dance a Galliard wearing these? They are having a laugh, surely?
I think that they were worn in order to protect one’s Very Expensive silks from trailing in THE MUD.
I know it’s April 1st but this is not a joke. Honest :o)
Happy April to all.
