“I Come to Bury Caesar”

Again!

This time it’s Marcus Aurelius. I’ve had his meditations on my shelves forever.

“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”

If you’ve seen the film Gladiator – great spectacle, BS history – you’ll know who Marcus Aurelius is.

“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”

Mainstream history tells us that he and Lucius Verus were adopted brothers.

“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realise this, and you will find strength.”

Strangely, the Caesars Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius, Lucius Verus and Commodus reigned over what was known as “The Golden Age.”

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.”

The Golden Age in Byzantine history spanned the reigns of Isaac I Comnenus, John II Comnenus and Andronicus I Comnenus.

John II Comnenus had a brother he adored. Isaac. (Marcus Aurelius?)

Isaac had a son – Andronicus.

I feel like a one woman Demolition Squad!

OK. It’s official. I definitely drank far too much coffee first thing this morning.

My head hurts :o)
