Forever ago, I bought a biography of the Marquis de Sade.

NOT because I’m into any of that BS, but because the Nature vs Nurture thing always fascinated me.

Do the abused always become an abuser?

Etc.

We were not long out of the horrific Jamie Bulger murder stuff and the question WHY? was haunting me.

Why?

I longed to believe that Nurture could mend any evil.

Reading the biography, I realised that Nature has the upper hand.

de Sade tortured animals from a young age… even though he grew up in a privileged, loving environment.

It opened my eyes :o(
