The Mills of God Grind….Oooops. Done that!
I researched this inside out, up and down, backwards and forwards. They besieged were forced to boil saddles, eat cats, dogs, rats…Children(?!?) to survive. Ahem.
Why?
Because Marie de Rohan’s family were half Catholic and half Huguenot.
Her uncles were called Soubise and Henri, Duc de Rohan.
Marie was accused many times by Catholic priests (and her own father and brother) of betraying France because she spent so much time in Protestant England.
As a close friend of James I Stuart’s “lover” the Duke of Buckingham and his spy, Wat Montagu (who btw was/is my fave character. Sardonic. Clean shaven. Picklock. Multi-lingual. And a bit of a maverick!!)
It’s all connected, peeps :o)
