The book I’m reading right now is proving to be a labour of patience.
I’m only on page 2 and already a bit confused.
It starts talking about a French scholar who was a “master” of mathematics, astronomy, Arabic texts, science etc etc.
In the year 999, he became Pope Sylvester II.
Ooh. That made several writers/teachers VERY unhappy.
William of Malmesbury called him “nefarious” and portrayed him as a coward.
At this rate – I’ll finish reading by the year 2499. Or thereabouts :o(
