…Dangerous. Foolish. Basically Hopeless and Useless. Tut.
According to a Scientist in the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Heyho!
About 400 years have passed since then, but the current advocates of the Scaligerian chronology continue to proudly carry the banner of their teacher. So, for example, one of them, a member of the commission, A.Yu. Panchin, recently conducted “calculations” that are in no way inferior to Scaliger’s calculations. The article by A.Yu. Panchin, “The 10 Most Dangerous Misconceptions, Pseudosciences, and Superstitions,” was highly appreciated by the RAS Commission for Combating Pseudoscience and the Falsification of Scientific Research, and in 2014 it was published in the 14th issue of this commission’s bulletin entitled “In Defense of Science”.
In his article, A.Yu. Panchin calculates, in particular, “the absurdity of error, pseudoscience, and superstition.”
It turns out that the most absurd superstition is faith in God – the degree of absurdity is 39 on the scale of A.Yu. Panchin. This is the highest degree of absurdity, according to the “calculations” of A.Yu. Panchin.
Not far from religion, the New Chronology, named in the table by A.Yu. Panchin, has gone – apparently, so as not to mention the hated name once again – “alternative history”. The degree of her absurdity according to Panchin is 32 points. At the end of his article, on page 294, Panchin explains: “An alternative story. This is primarily the work of Fomenko and similar works. “
And “media confidence” looks like a completely innocent mistake against their background – only 10 points of absurdity, the lowest rating among all presented in the table.
At the same time, A.Yu. Panchin makes an important clarification. It turns out that so absurd, according to his calculations, is not any religion, but above all, Orthodoxy. In the notes to his table, he writes: “Religion. Many experts did not specify which religion they were talking about, but those who specified most often wrote about Orthodoxy” [2], p.294.
Further, as a true and implacable fighter against evil, A.Yu. Panchin does not stop there. Besides absurdity, he also managed to “measure” the danger of various “misconceptions.” At the same time, religion again ended up at the very top of the list: it took second place – 266 danger points. The new chronology here turned out to be more modest and received only 161 points – however, it is more than average and, again, more than “media trust” (155 points).
