I’ve been asked to explain what the Outremer states are. I mentioned them in a previous post about the Teutonic Knights.

If you look at the link above you’ll get a good answer.

Outremer means beyond the seas. It’s also a word that means Crusader States and the Levant.

I actually agree with the MS History explanation of WHERE they are. But that’s about it.

For me and several others, it makes perfect sense why the Slavs/Teutons would form a group like the Teutonic Knights to safe-guard travellers in/around the 1190’s.

These Slavs/Teutons etc would have been here for a very long time before the founding of the Knights and, who better than those with extensive local knowledge, to be protectors.

This whole area was deep in the midst of a MAJOR upheaval that had less to do with the Europeans capturing/losing/capturing the Holy Land and Jerusalem and more to do with the massive “blood-thirsty” power change happening in Constantinople.
