OK. Confusion reigns here.
I’m starting to wonder if MainStream History has DELIBERATELY given The House of Medici a Bad Reputation (?!)
I’ve studied the family quite a bit. But mainly Marie de Medici – mother of Louis XIII.
She was very close to Peter Paul Rubens, whom she commissioned to paint the Palais de Luxembourg, her home, in Paris.
And Lorenzo is not much liked either. Nor Catherine.
I even have a scene in my book where Henri IV’s bastard son calls Marie de Medici “The FAT BANKER.”
BTW – She (MdM) died alone and bankrupt in Cologne.
Mmmn.
As main stream history seems to be upside down and back to front….I’m reconsidering MY opinions of this Florentine family!
