If you have watched the video I posted earlier with Gary Kemp and Iconic Song Writing…at around 14:24 he says something about what he did when he was 11 years old.
I…ME…had MY first paying job aged 11. Like Gary, it was a paper round. All winds and weather and the majority of it went to Mum. Langton Hill was a bastard to bike up in an oncoming gale. That was the last year that my parents bought clothes for me. I got a job in the restaurant next door aged 12 and was allowed to spend my wages on ME :o(
MUM – the one and only EVER person who scared her was her mother-in-law. My Dad’s Mum. My Nan, Lily.
Dad left school at 14 and joined the Royal Marines. From the first day he got paid he sent most of his wages home. He was 21 and Mum was 20 when they married. Mum had to face Lily and say…David is now married and he can’t send his wages home to you!
Lily agreed. Her eldest son had other responsibilities.
