That’s what I said to our builders a year after moving into this house.

Before – this room and that chimneybreast had f-ugly 1950’s beige tiles all over it and a modern electric 3-bar fire.

Rip it ALL out!

Behind the wall we found the recess and the YorkStone Lintel. So I HAD to HAVE a YorkStone Hearth laid to compliment it!

P.S. Apologies for the state of our fireplace today but my mind has been on other matters and cleaning is NOT top of the list!
