I haven’t got time to go into detail today but some salient facts…
Josiah Wedgwood was a huge fan of white Chinese porcelain and some bright spark decided to add powdered flint to the clay. This made pottery beautifully white and durable.
I’ve just watched something about Stucco Doro, an extremely hard-wearing whitework stucco that was once used on the outside of buildings.
It consisted of burnt powdered chalk, burnt powdered flint and water. This could be manipulated into any shape or form by hand or tool and then left to set. Hard as Marble?
