I’ve a soft spot for this poet. He has so many links for me.

His mother was sister to Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester. His sister was Mary (whom some think might’ve written the Bard’s works.)

He fell out with Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford and challenged him to a duel. Which Good Queen Bess FORBADE.

He fell in love with a very young Penelope Devereux – later Lady Rich, mother of Henry Rich, lover of de Vere and Wriothesley – and dedicated Astrophel and Stella to Penny.

He was a courtier, a scholar, a poet, a soldier, a Sagittarian and a lot more :o)
