The Remains of An Altar

I have read and/or listened to just about every novel that Phil Rickman has written. Apart from his John Dee ones!

The Remains of an Altar has stayed with me for many reasons. You have an ex-SAS soldier who is now a churchman. You have Merrily doing her Deliverance stuff. You have the ghost of Edward Elgar. And you have Merrily’s teenage (pagan) daughter investigating the Ledwardine Ley Lines, much like her name-sake, Alfred Watkins.

Mr Rickman’s books are HEAVY. As in heavy to hold and heavy to read. But well worth the time and effort.

I love the area around Hereford and the Welsh Marches so much that I almost bought a house there. Sadly, it was too far away from almost because of time, finance and circumstance. Maybe one day, hey? :o)
