Ooooh. My Dander is UP!
I VIVIDLY remember taking the 11+ exam at Junior School. Bowl Alley Lane. Aged 10.
Yes. It was stressful at the time. Waiting for the results was even worse. BTW – you’ll have to’ve been through the English Education System to understand any of this.
Now – about 500 years later – I know that the 11+ exam is just a run of the mill MENSA test.
So many crow about their MENSA score but a Grammar School Education is disgusting (?)
Anyhoo. I passed and went to the local Grammar School. So did my brothers (both ex-Bowl Alley Laners)
So did both my sons (next gen ex-Bowl Alley Laners)
Me, my brothers and my sons ALL stayed mates with those who’d not passed the test and went to Banovallum – the local Comprehensive School. We all welcomed old friends from the Comp who were allowed to join our 6th Form.
Comprehensive Schools chuck kids out early. No Lower 6th or Upper 6th so they have 2 years less education – by law.
This kind of separation aged 11 is #BAD now.
We are ordered to ALWAYS set personal levels at the lowest common denominator??? :
The expression “lowest common denominator” is used to describe (usually in a disapproving manner) a rule, proposal, opinion, or media that is deliberately simplified so as to appeal to the largest possible number of people.
NewsFlash : We are NOT all made the same. And to restrict some because it causes offence to others is DISGUSTING.
No more da Vinci. Or Bach. Or Dorothy Dunnett. Or Shakespeare. Or…?
WHY DO SO MANY SETTLE FOR LOW STANDARDS?
Is it FEAR? Of Ridicule? And Humiliation?
If so : GET OFF THE CROSS. It’s already been taken. FFS!
