Tewdwr vs Tudor

1916, my arse.

The invasion of Ireland began in the 11th century. Bloody Vikings.

Then in the 12th century Nest ferch Rhys (aka Nest daughter of Rhys ap Tewdwr) was taken as a prisoner of war from Deheubarth to London. Where Henry I (William the Bastard’s youngest son) made her pregnant and then married her off to one of his mates Gerald de Windsor – Constable of Pembroke Castle.

The FITZ part of name derives from some mistaken translation of “ancient” hand-written French documents.

FILS means “son of” in French. Fitz is the anglicised translation. So….FitzGerald means son of Gerald (de Windsor.)

Nest’s bastard son by King Henry I was named FitzHenry. Or FitzRoy (as in Roi – son of the king?)

Too complicated?

Imagine the research that I’ve had to unravel to write Ravens of Dinefwr!!!!

And where did I get Aleksander, the Ukrainian from? And how did he get to Wales via Norway, Scotland, Isle of Man, Ireland? ? ?

Let’s look at a chart.
