It’s common knowledge that the “ancient” Celtic warriors were Guerrilla fighters.
They’d appear out of nowhere, do their thing and then disappear. Especially those who lived in mountainous regions.
They packed light. Minimal clothing, protection and small hand arms like a sword or a bow or an axe.
If they were ever mounted it would be on small, swift ponies not the huge destriers that the Lordly Knights used.
Agincourt was won by the Brits because of the quick and lightly armed Welsh Longbowmen who picked off the dismounted French cavalry knights whose armour was so heavy that they could not free themselves from the mud.
Imagine the Normans taking on the Welsh? How long would it take to dress, arm and mount a Knight and his horse?
By the time they’d finished, they’d all be dead or severely wounded.
Which leads to the question : How did William the Bastard conquer Wales so efficiently and permanently when the Welsh were aided by Irish, Scottish and Viking mercenaries?
Just asking :o)
