Mostly ignore. Most people have been taught the basic concept that the Earth is “round” (more accurately, an oblate spheroid). 😎

The Earth in a non-spinning state would be a perfect sphere. Because it spins, that causes it to slightly bulge at the equator and slightly flatten at the poles. 😎

Is that horizontal or vertical? No worries. I’ll figure it out!

The Earth is at 23° off-axis. When it spins, the poles are more or less upright. So buldging would be horizontal (more or less) and the flattening would occur along a more or less vertical line. And that does not even take into account the “wobble” that the Earrh has that makes it, over time, point its north pole at a different star throughout an appoximately 25, 795-year cycle. 😎
