There I was, doing something completely different, when the above popped up.
It’s a photocopy of the record of my place, given to me by my village friend.
1625 entry is my home.
This belongs to a huge list of old mud and stud rectories, vicarages and parsonages in the county. So far – this place seems to be the only one that was rebuilt in red brick. All the others are no longer about!
OK. Here’s my dilemma.
Before the 17th c – right on back to “Roman” times, there are plenty of voluminous records in the archives. But…
…No one seems to know Exactly what happened between the early 17th century and the early 19th century, to cause so many thatched buildings to disappear.
Did something a bit fissy go on in the Records Office around these dates?
Again – Sooooo many questions :o(
