This is a line from Shakespeare’s Henry IV.
We did Henry IV Part 1 AND Part 2 as part of my English Literature Exams. I didn’t quite appreciate this at the time but now I do.
Henry IV, father of Henry V – antagonist of the Dauphin of France. Who was rescued by Jehanne d’Arc.
And the PERCY family have been quite a big part of my research life. From Harry Hotspur…a PERCY of Northumberland to Lucy. A Percy of Northumberland.
Lucy Percy became the wife of James Hay, 1st Earl of Carlisle. James Hay accompanied Charles Stuart and Buckingham to France where he met Marie de Rohan. A couple of years later, when Marie went to England, Lucy Percy became Marie’s husband’s favourite mistress. And she is thought to be the basis for Dumas’ character Milady in the Three Musketeers and I made her (through deep research) Richelieu’s spy in England.
My BFF lives a hop and a skip away from Alnwick Castle.
The Percy’s of Alnwick have a LONG and COLOURFUL history!!
Canna make this up. See quote above :o)
