The Pregnancy Portrait of Elizabeth I

Oooh. I’m being given fascinating videos today :o)

This one is a STUNNER for me.

I got to know Somerset House quite well. By 1625, it was given over to Marie de Rohan as temporary accommodation when she escorted Henriette Marie to her new husband, Charles I Stuart, in England. By then the building had been renamed Denmark House in honour of the late Anne of Denmark, wife to James I Stuart.

The fact that this painting was “lost” comes as no surprise. After the assassination of Buckingham and the execution of Charles I (who had both spent several years collecting art together with the help of Balthazar Gerbier) much of this collection went astray.

Whatever Mr Shakespeare says – this is one GORGEOUS work of art. In my humble opinion.
