This happened to my youngest brother.

His wife is on a par with mine and his (bruv’s) Mother for OCD cleanliness. They bought a newly built, pristine house and have a – Japanese, straight lines and everything in its place – garden.

They have no kids and pets were off the agenda. Until the neighbour’s cat decided to move in with them.

They now have catS…but still no children !

And he’d’ve made a wonderful father :o(
