I’ve spent today with Mary Somerville. Although she was born in Jedburgh, she spent her childhood in Burntisland. There are lovely descriptions of this small town in her biography.
Why is this relevant to anything?
Well.
For one – I’ve always loved the name Burnt Island despite it not being burnt. Or an island.
For two – It’s just over two miles away from Dad’s birth place. Where my family still lives. And where I had many a happy childhood day.
Memories.
Go away, Barbra.
